Youthful Essence Skincare Formulas Fall Short of Results With Unimpressive Ingredients

Youthful Essence® Overview

The Youthful Essence® system consists of various topical creams apparently applied via a certain Resurfacing Tool. With a wide variety to choose from, consumers can combine various Youthful Essence® products depending on their skin care needs.

Youthful Essence® has developed facial washes, moisturizers, toners, smoothers, masks, and day/night treatments plus sensitive-skin options and body-part-specific versions of some of these. By using these products, consumers will supposedly be able to “stop the clock” of aging and tap into a veritable “fountain of youth.” This overblown and somewhat disturbing advertising strategy is no surprise, and it is shored up by a rather conventional blend of ingredients that are associated with such claims.

Ingredients at a Glance

There are too many ingredients in too many products to discuss here. So we will focus on the Vitamin-Enriched Resurfacing Cream, which seems to be the foundational product of the Youthful Essence® line. It should be noted that the formulas of other Youthful Essence® products are not identical to this one.

Ingredients in Focus

The main ingredient in Vitamin-Enriched Resurfacing Cream, as the name might suggest, is an exfoliating agent: Aluminum Oxide Crystals. This ingredient is used in a number of industrial applications, but also in more domestic concerns, including the polishing of teeth and the cleaning of CDs.

Safflower Oil, Propylene Glycol, and Panthenol are often used in cosmetics as moisturizers.

Wheat Germ Oil and Retinyl Palmitate deliver vitamins E and A.

Carrot Root Extract is said to protect skin from free radicals, and Wheat Bran protects skin from UV damage. Wheat Bran especially might be good for restoring/healing skin and fighting cellulite.

Beta-Carotene is also included to reduce flaking and increase the suppleness of the skin.

Positives

Product website is generally helpful.

Products contain some promising ingredients.

Negatives

Rather conventional, in the end.

As-Seen-On-TV feel does not inspire confidence.

Website does not readily provide ingredients information.

Final Thoughts

Youthful Essence® might be little more than the essence of the anti-aging campaign. This search for the fountain of youth is, of course, doomed to failure, but some products are still better than others. For example, products containing Hyaluronic Acid, Argireline or Matrixyl 3000 are usually suitable for skin care and wrinkle reduction. Youthful Essence® does not appear to employ these ingredients. And so, though it is decently priced, Youthful Essence® might not be the smartest place to put your money.
