Discipline in the Montessori Classroom
Freedom in the Montessori classroom is often misunderstood not only by the parents, but also by some teachers. What we need to remember is that from a Montessori point of view freedom is not the right to do what one wishes without thought or consideration for others. It also does not mean that the only way the child can be creative is to be allowed to do whatever he/she chooses without any consistent parameters and guidance from the adult in the room. For freedom to work creatively and constructively it has to function within the firm guidelines of discipline. Discipline does not mean being regimented and having to submit to the will of another. Freedom and discipline are two sides of the same coin.
Freedom is the ability to stop, think and make a choice to the exclusion of any other possible given choices. Discipline is making correct choices while respecting the environment, and the rights of others to function and also make choices. Yes, to facilitate growth and correct choice making the child needs to act and be given opportunities to make choices. However, this does not mean the teacher abdicates responsibility. On the contrary it puts greater responsibility on the teacher.
Are We Taught Enough?
When growing up you are taught to learn. Then apply that knowledge to succeed in what ever activity. This process fulfills our lives with intelligent, careers, money, love, friendship, and pride. Schools in American have some of the best teachers and learning tools of the World. Individuals come from all over the globe to get a education in American. Then take what they have learned and implement the education in their country.
Americas education may be one of the best, but are we taught all that we need to know. Do we get out of high school, or even college ready for the road ahead. What do we learn? Math, Science, History, Literature, English. The basics right. All of those subjects will help you in life at one time or another. What is it that you really need to know to be successful in life?
Alcohol Rehab Must be Made a Priority for America’s Youth
A recent study by the National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions found that if drinking begins before the age of 15, the young person is four times more likely to become an alcoholic than if he hadn’t started drinking until he was 21 or older. As more kids turn to drinking, and turn into alcoholics as they get older, alcohol rehab centers could have a tough time meeting demand.
In the 1960s and 1970s, many states lowered the legal drinking age to 18 years old. A review of data since that time reveals an increase in alcohol related traffic deaths. This prompted advocacy groups to push for the legal drinking age to be raised again to 21 years old. By the mid to late 1980s, all states had adopted the same legal drinking age and alcohol related traffic fatalities dropped.
How To Start A Student Investment Club
Investment clubs are a terrific way for kids to learn about investments even at a young age. You can start a student investment club for your own child or for your students if you are a teacher. The student investment club can help kids learn about money and teach them invaluable lessons about making decisions.
Starting a student investment club begins with the desire to invest. An adult should start and run the club and provide structure and guidance along the way. Properly used, however, the student investment club will be a good learning experience for everyone.
